Large Skipper
Large skipper butterfly on blackberry flowers. Inspired by a visit to Herefordshire a couple of weeks ago. This picture has taken many hours to do as I kept restarting and trying to work out where to go with it. Once I had a feeling for what I wanted it to do, it then progressed in a different direction and became something I could keep on amending and changing. In the end I called it a day as I had spent too long on it.

Ballingham Hedgerow
Hedgerows on a sunny, warm day in June can be an overwhelming mass of fresh luxurious new growth and abundant flowers. Whilst on a walk in near the River Wye between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye a couple of weeks ago, the footpath I followed led through the quiet corner of a field and into some woodlands. Sketches made in Hitchin today. The market square pen and ink drawing was done with the help of a few spots of rain. Hitchin Concert Band was an iPad sketch. The camper van belonging to Lucky Penny Weddings was drawn in pen and ink, photographed and then coloured on the iPad when I got home.

Hitchin Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
Three very quick sketches from a day’s drawing in Hitchin today. The square had a large tv screen showing Trooping the Colour and I bought a new A3 sketch pad in order to capture the following scenes which were drawn with fountain pens:
